Weigh-In Highlights
Aside from the main and co-main event fighters, Brian Ortega drew particular attention at Friday’s weigh-in. Concerns lingered about potential weight issues involving O’Malley, Dvalishvili, Grasso, or Shevchenko, which could have altered the main card, but Ortega, who has struggled to make featherweight in the past, was closely watched.
Originally slated to fight Diego Lopes at UFC 300, Ortega had been preparing to move up to lightweight but accepted this featherweight bout on short notice. His past challenges with cutting weight raised concerns, as Ortega had to withdraw from a previous fight against Lopes due to weight-cutting issues, with Dan Ige stepping in as a replacement.
Ortega successfully made weight at 146 pounds, hitting the featherweight limit. However, he appeared noticeably drained on the scales, suggesting his struggles to stay in the featherweight division might continue. This could be his final fight at 145 pounds, with a win likely to set him on a path toward a title shot at lightweight. For Lopes, a victory could catapult him into title contention, potentially positioning him for a shot at the featherweight belt.
